COVID-19, also referred to as the novel coronavirus in the news, is a new virus initially detected in late 2019 that has quickly spread worldwide, with over 86,000 cases reported in Massachusetts since the start of 2020. Research is still being conducted to determine key information that is still unknown about the virus, as well as determining what can be used as a vaccine. AFC Urgent Care Natick performs COVID-19 diagnostic testing on patients seven days a week by appointment only, after the patient has had a telemedicine screening to go over their symptoms.
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
COVID-19 patients can be symptomatic, but many cases have been proven asymptomatic. The number and degree of symptoms can vary case-to-case. Asymptomatic patients can still be highly contagious. Symptoms typically develop between two and fourteen days after initial exposure to the virus and may include:
- Dry cough and congestion
- Sore throat
- Body aches
- Loss of smell and/or taste
- Shortness of breath
Diagnostic Testing for COVID-19
Patients who meet certain criteria are able to undergo diagnostic testing for COVID-19 at AFC Urgent Care Natick after an initial telemedicine visit. During your virtual appointment, your physician will be able to go over your symptoms and determine if you meet the criteria for testing. If you do, you will be advised to come to our urgent care center for drive-up testing. After calling the center from the parking lot, a staff member will come out to your car and perform a swab of your lower nasal cavity, which will be painless. After your test is performed, results will be available within a couple of days.
